"Best of the Island"

"Babes in the Woods is a small spot near the ferry terminal run by Lisa, a personable chef and a 12 year Island resident. The menu consists of a number of staples and a rotating fresh sheet featuring unique house made soups, flatbread, dips, salads and desserts.

We stopped in for an afternoon snack at the end of our weekend trip to Galiano and enjoyed the best food and food experience of the trip. We started with an outstanding fresh carrot soup with coconut milk, a velvety texture seasoned with a hint of roasted cumin. On to the spinach salad, dressed with a balanced combination of fresh peppers, onion and yukon gold potatoes, my wife declared the rice wine, soy vinaigrette as one of the best she'd ever had. The salad was served with a crispy flatbread and a roasted vegetable dip that was rich well seasoned.

We finished with Lisa's no-bake cheesecake, a wonderful combination of graham crust, nicely flavoured centre and a praline and walnut finish served in a small mason jar and definitely worth saving room for.

Add Lisa's enthusiasm for her food and her engaging manner and this little spot becomes a must try for visitors, day-trippers and locals. Definitely worth a visit."
